The following steps are recommended for getting swimming pools back in tip top shape after storm and/or flood damage. 1. Remove all solid debris from the pool. 2. On in-ground pools, examine pool edges and the ground around the pool for damage. Examine the pool structure on above-ground pools for damage. Seek help from a professional pool builder or repair service to correct any problems. 3. Ensure the pump motor is adequately dry before resuming operation. Drain down any excess water from the pool. 4. Use a floccing agent to the pool per the label directions and vacuum to waste. Flocculants are chemical compounds that, when added to water, cause suspended agents to sink. After sinking to the bottom of the pool, the once suspended articles can be vacuumed to waste. 5. Circulate the pool for 24 hours and then test the pH, total alkalinity and calcium hardness, or you may bring a sample of your water to your local pool care center for a free, personalized computer analysis. Adjust chemical levels as needed. For chlorinated pools, apply a double dosage of Aqua Chlor or Aqua Burn. If using a biguanide system, add both sanitizer and shock, applying a double dosage of the shock product. Circulate the pool for another 24 hours. 6. Monitor the chlorine level for 24 hours to ensure that you can maintain a 1-3ppm level. Add Aqua Chlor or Aqua Burn as needed to maintain levels. For biguanide pools, monitor the sanitizer level to hold 40ppm and shock levels to maintain 40-60ppm for 24 hours to ensure that you are able to maintain proper levels. Add products as needed to raise these levels if they are too low. 7. Clean the filter using the cleaner compatible with your sanitizer. 8. After the water is balanced and you are able to hold a sanitizer level, you can then resume enjoying your pool.
